Hiyasha Soba Salad & Tempura
A Valentine Day's treat for my faithful readers (all three of you): finally another daring kitchen challenge.
The February 2011 Daring Cooks' challenge was hosted by Lisa of Blueberry Girl. She challenged Daring Cooks to make Hiyashi Soba and Tempura. She has various sources for her challenge including japanesefood.about.com, pinkbites.com, and itsybitsyfoodies.com.
My stomach can't tolerate fried food right now, so I stuck to making the hiyashi soba salad sans tempura. Usually I love Japanese food, but I either badly messed up this recipe or I'm committing myself to sticking with yakiniku donburi and sushi from now on. I loved the salad toppings (thin slices of cucumber and tomato, and shrimp), but the noodles tasted like expired, soured cardboard. Actually, if possible I think the noodles may have been very old/expired.
For now, I'm going to refrain from passing judgement on this recipe until after using another brand of soba noodles.

Looks great definitely try another brand of noodles. It is just as good with the white rice noodles and the soy noodles if you don't like buckwheat
WOW sorry to hear that the noodles were off yes do try again with another batch. Great that you attempted the challenge I hope that the tummy calms down.
Cheers from Audax in Sydney Australia.
I think the table looks beautiful. You know what they say, Try try again!
