Doughnuts
It has been quite a while since I've tackled a Daring Baker challenge. With moving, getting engaged, planning a wedding, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera, the cooking challenges got put on the back burner (pardon the pun).
The October 2010 Daring Bakers challenge was hosted by Lori of Butter Me Up. Lori chose to challenge DB'ers to make doughnuts. She used several sources for her recipes including Alton Brown, Nancy Silverton, Kate Neumann, and Epicurious.
I stay away from fried food as much as possible, so to complete this challenge I used a doughnut making machine, like the picture below, that my grandmother gave me several years ago. In the past, I simply poured prepared cake mix batter into the doughnut maker, creating doughnut-shaped cakes. Since I don't even like cake, the poor doughnut maker got stored away in my cupboard somewhere, forgotten. For this challenge, I used a buttermilk cake doughnut recipe, and the result was yum. :) Even without frying the doughnuts, they tasted like real cake doughnuts, especially after coating them with a chocolate glaze. Maybe the doughnut machine won't be so forgotten now. Maybe...
Recipes for the challenge can be found here.

If you didn't like the doughnuts made from Grandma's doughnut maker, why did you get it and not me? hahaha.
The doughnut you made does look delicious!
That doughnut looks superb and you baked them so cool I love the doughnut machine I never have seen one before. Cheers from Audax in Sydney Australia.
