Mormon, Piano Playin' Hair Designer

This post is a small cultural diorama of me for my ESL class:

1. This wagon wheel hangs on a wall in my home. It belonged to a family who crossed the plains to settle in Utah with the Mormon Pioneers. A family of whom I am a descendant. They settled in Utah in an effort to defend their faith and practice religious freedom. Though this wheel did not cross the plains with them (too modern) it reminds me of the faith needed for the difficult journey and fills me with gratitude and strength and direction for my own journey through life.

2. Standing near the piano singing a jazz standard while my mom played the accompaniment. One of my earliest memories. Music has always been an integral portion of my family's dynamic. Every holiday we sing together, harmonizing to various jazz, religious, folk, or rock songs. And each of us have our various instruments (piano, tenor guitar and voice were mine). Music, not only a hobby, has become a necessary daily activity relieving me from the stresses of schools and life. Bringing joy to my life.

3. This Egyptian princess poses for the camera on her way to a Halloween dance. Not only is hair design art and expression under my finger tips, but it provides a small income. From simple mens' cuts to the really creative designs like in the picture above, hair design is an important, money-earning, artistic portion of my life. This Egyptian design was especially fun as I created a French rococo and Cleopatra inspired do.
